Today is the feast of St. Isidore of Seville, bishop and Doctor of the Church. He also happens to be the proposed Patron Saint of the Internet . . .

Lest there be any confusion...

I am not a nun.

This is not the sort of thing I generally take time to clarify (it being fairly obvious to me, for one, that I am not a nun), but apparently this rumor is circulating somehow--to the extent that one of my sister's friends was convinced, despite initial doubts, by a family I vaguely know that I had become a nun (my sister having somehow failed to communicate this to her personally).

Not only am I not a nun, but if I have any ultimate convent-bound vocation, God has yet to communicate it to me (and it has not been an issue we've ignored).

My family has facetiously remarked that perhaps this rumor accounts for a certain dearth of dates in my life lately . . .

Hm.

Today is the feast of St. Francis of Paola, founder of the Order of Minims. The painting I chose is The Miracles of Saint Francis of Paola by Peter Paul Rubens, a Flemish painter of the 17th century.

I wonder how many people I managed to scare by not showing up to Mass for the last two Sundays at the parish where I've been going through RCIA . . . many of these wonderful people have known me since I was a baby--I can only imagine how many prayers are flying up to heaven on account of my absence.

The truth of the matter is that the Sunday before last I was at a high school retreat, and attended Mass there (even was able to go through the first scrutiny there). Yesterday I was at a convention for work down in New Orleans and attended Mass at the church closest to the hotel (St. Patrick's Church)--which also ended up being a Tridentine Mass.

My first Tridentine Mass on Laetare Sunday--something very appropriate about that. For those wondering, it was a parish thoroughly in support of the present Pope--the entire homily centered around the fact that Pope John Paul II will be releasing an encyclical on the Eucharist this Holy Thursday & how desperately we need it. I can't wait!

God has given me such a wonderful, unanticipated tour of His Church during this journey . . .
